The initial Bangalore Derby was run in 1962 as the Kunigal Derby. The stretch was only a mile and it was triumphed by Mount Everest who went on to win the inaugural Indian Turf Invitation Cup at Mumbai. Kingfisher has been funding the race since 1988 when the name was transformed to the Kingfisher Derby Bangalore to figure it out from the Bangalore Derby run in the winter which was previously called the Arc de Triomphe. Over the years, the race has grown into a top class pointer for the winter plums. Six winners of the race have gone afterwards to win the Indian Derby, three have took over the Indian Turf Invitation Cup while nine have acquired the Derby-Invitation double.

The country’s most illustrious racing event saw the who’s who of the city observe the sport and immerse into the enthusiasm of the game. Between the haut monde at the Derby, DJ Aqeel, Actor and Politician “Ambareesh”, Anita Kohlay, Sahlini Chopra, Entrepreneur: Satya Sinha, Vasantha, Samar SIngh Sekhawat, Gurpreet Singh, Pia Sreivastav, Sandhya Jain, Chinu Kala, Shirin Shringar and many more were spotted dressed exquisitely in characteristic Derby wear and having a recherché occasion.
