The LFA’s (Lexus Fuji Apex) importance to Lexus can be judged from the fact that the production-ready version took almost a decade from concept stage. A lot of the car gets inputs from Toyota’s F1 programme as well as the LF-A, which ran at the Nürburgring 24-hour endurance race. The LFA’s gestation has taken nearly a decade not because the programme had problems, or limited resources, but because – unlike manufacturers who outsource components like gearboxes and carbon fibre bits – Toyota decided to design and build nearly every element of the LFA, its first ever supercar, in-house. This handbuilt supersports will be delivered to the world for a maximum of 500 units.
