Women and students ran to remember Late Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia
Asian Games Gold medalist, discus thrower Seema Punia and Minister of Mines, Steel, Labour and Employment Narendra Singh Tomar cheered the participants at National Women Marathon
In senior class, Manju Yadav and in junior class Anjali Tomar were the winner
Gwalior, 12 October 2014: Women’s marathon race was held at the national level in the memory of Late Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia. A source of inspiration for women across the country and in guestship of recently won gold medal in discus throw, international athlete Seema Punia the race has been organised. Marathon flag off and prize distribution program was done by Minister of Mines, Steel, Labour and Employment Narendra Singh Tomar.
Organized under girls junior and senior class, marathon race was flagged off from Gwalior Theme Road by Asiad gold medalist Seema Punia, Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Cabinet Minister of Women and Child Development Maya Singh, Cabinet Minister for Commerce, Industries and Employment Yashodhara Raje Scindia, General Administration and Narmada Valley Development State Minister Lal Singh Arya and Gwalior Mayor Sameeksha Gupta.
Speaking at prize distribution program Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said dignity of the program has been ehanced due the presence of Asiad gold medalist Seema Punia. Its a pleasure that who is bringing worldwide laurels to the country Seema Punia has agreed to train girls of Madhya Pradesh by the initiative of Cabinet Minister for Tourism, Sports & Youth Welfare Yashodhara Raje Scindia. Due to which girls of the state will be able to bring glory to Madhya Pradesh on national and international horizon.
While remembering Late Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia Union Minister Tomar said that from public life of Rajmata people can take inspiration and make their lives meaningful. He also appreciated the plans by Madhya Pradesh government to curb the decrease in women population.
Cabinet Minister of Women and Child Development Maya Singh said that in every role women should get respect and equal opportunity. This is what Late Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia always intented. Madhya Pradesh Government is also working with determination for women equality.
Attractive cash prizes are given at women’s marathon race. First prize winner under junior & senior class Rs. 21,000 was distributed dividually. Second prize Rs. 15,000, third prize Rs. 10,000, fourth prize Rs. 5,000 and fifth prize Rs. 3,000 were distrubted. Under consolation prizes Rs. 2,000 were given. In addition to cash awards, participants who complete the marathon race 150 bicycles were distributed with lottery system. The bicycles were made available through the city’s various institutions.
The marathon started beneath the 111 feet high National Flag of theme ‘road’ and its prizes were distributed at the ground in front of Samadhi of Veerangana Laxmi Bai. Manju won the marathon in senior category and Anjali Tomar was winner of junior category. Side by side the women’s marathon, a women’s empowerment rally led by Women and Child Development Minister Smt. Maya Singh was also taken out. MP Anup Mishra, former minister and MLA Narayan Singh Kushwah, Chairman of Samanya Nirdhan Varg Kalyan Ayog Balendu Shukla, former Minister Dhyanendra Singh, Municipal Corporation Chairman Brijendra Singh Jadon and others were also present on the occasion.
