McLaren famous win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995 will complete 20 years on 18 June. Not only was the McLaren F1 GTR essentially a road car competing against purpose-built prototype racers, but it was also the first entry by McLaren in the world-famous endurance race. Yet McLaren finished 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 13th, and company remain the only manufacturer to win Le Mans at their first attempt.
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of this milestone in company’s history, McLaren will be attending this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. Customers and fans will be treated to a spectacle as the five McLaren F1 GTRs that finished the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans are reunited for a parade lap. Leading the pack will be the McLaren P1TM GTR as it makes its global dynamic debut.
The road trip stopped for coffee at the Château De Chambord, went through the streets of Paris and finally arrived at Le Mans. Masanori Sekiya, JJ Lehto and Yannick Dalmas, drivers of the winning McLaren F1 GTR also reunited at Le Mans after 20 years.
