Mazda 787B will be honoured at 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed (2)

Fuchū, 19 February 2015: Mazda will be the “Central Feature” marque at the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The carmaker thus takes centre stage at the world’s most prestigious motoring festival, celebrating its challenger spirit with racing legends from its illustrious past alongside the stylish and spirited cars of its current line-up, which adds three brand-new models this year.

Throughout its history, Mazda has defied convention with its innovative approach to automobiles. It was the only carmaker to successfully bring the rotary engine to market, and then won the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a rotary powered car. Mazda resurrected the affordable lightweight sports car with the Mazda MX-5 and has never stopped innovating in its quest to produce better cars, as highlighted today by its SKYACTIV Technology.

Stars this year include the Mazda CX-3, an all-new small SUV, the fourth-generation MX-5 and the newly launched Mazda2 supermini. Racing enthusiasts at the 25-28 June Festival of Speed weekend, which includes the Moving Motor Show, will also be treated to the unique sound of the 1991 Le Mans-winning Mazda 787B along with many other classics from Mazda’s competition past. This year’s Central Feature, an automotive sculpture created by renowned artist Gerry Judah together with Mazda, will transform the front lawn of Goodwood House, the centre of the Goodwood estate and focal point of the event.

“The theme for this year’s festival is ‘Flat-out and Fearless: Racing on the Edge’, which aligns perfectly with Mazda’s continual push to reject engineering conventions and strive for something unique,” commented festival founder Lord Charles March. “We are delighted to celebrate Mazda’s motor sport achievements and pioneering road-car technologies, and to help it showcase its new cars to an international community of enthusiasts and the world’s automotive media – an audience that only Goodwood can attract.”
