Gwalior, 4 January 2015: In commemoration of the Delhi rape victim Nirbhaya, a condolence meeting was arranged on Daughter Protection Day at Beti Bachao Tiraha, Sindhi Colony, on December 30 which was attended by women members of various clubs and association of Gwalior including JCI, Lions Club, Mrignayani, and Tejaswini. A candle-light tribute was paid to Nirbhata and the team also visited Kamla Raja Hospital where mothers of newborn girl children were given cash awards of Rs. 2,100 and memento to mark respect for the girl child.
Mayor Sameeksha Gupta, Dr. Jyoti Bindal, Dr. Veena Pradhan, Anjali Batra and Neelima Shinde were some prominent women delegates who resolved to observe December 30 as “Girl Child Protection Day” every year in Gwalior and honour mothers and newborn girls on that day.
