Daniil Kvyat delivered a battling drive to ninth place and two points in a hard-fought Canadian Grand Prix that saw both the Russian youngster and team-mate Daniel Ricciardo endure a tough time on the power-hungry straights of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
“It’s been a strange weekend for me and I am a little confused about today’s race,” said Daniel Ricciardo, who finished in 13th position. “I was lacking pace and we are not sure why. There was nothing that felt especially wrong but we just couldn’t get any pace out of the car. I had a few set-up changes compared to Dany but that doesn’t explain the difference in pace. It is something we will look at to understand what the cause was.”
Daniil Kvyat, meanwhile, made his single visit to the pit lane on lap 27. In his final stint he eventually settled into ninth place, where in the closing stages he came under pressure from Lotus’ Romain Grosjean. “The team did a good job but we obviously have to improve in many areas including the power unit,” says Daniil.
